How are you travelling? You can reach the Knut Hamsun Centre by car, bus, boat, train and plane.

By car
The Knut Hamsun Centre is located in Presteid in Hamarøy Municipality, approximately 15 km from the E6 highway at Ulvsvåg and 1 km from the municipal administrative centre Oppeid. The distance from Bodø is approximately 220 km, while from Narvik it is about 120 km (you need to take a ferry between Skarberget and Bognes). When you reach Ulvsvåg, take route RV 81 towards Skutvik. When you enter the village of Presteid, the turnoff to the Knut Hamsun Centre is signposted.

By bus
Buses travel in both directions between Bodø and Narvik twice daily (morning and afternoon). This bus stops at Ulvsvåg, and a local bus corresponding bus continues to Presteid, Oppeid and Skutvik.

By boat
The express boat Bodø-Svolvær-Bodø calls at Skutvik in Hamarøy once daily during the winter season and more frequently during summer. There is a corresponding bus from Skutvik to Oppeid, Presteid and Ulvsvåg on weekdays.

The ferry connection Svolvær-Skutvik-Svolvær operates once daily during winter and more frequently during summer.

By train
NSB operates one day train and one night train daily between Trondheim and Bodø. The easiest way to get to/from Hamarøy when you travel by train is to travel by train to/from Fauske Station. The bus Bodø-Narvik-Bodø corresponds with the train.

By plane
The nearest airports are Bodø Airport and Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes. Bodø Airport is located just a five-minute drive from downtown Bodø, while Evenes Airport is located 79 km north of Narvik.
